Mary Foot(e) was James Barron's wife, a kitchenmaid who was tried in July 1938 in Chichester for stealing a shawl, for which she received a life sentence!  This was pretty rough, even by the standards of the time, even though she had no prior convictions (the usual reason for getting a long sentence) and she had a daughter who she had presumably to leave behind.

All this is in the Convict Indents, but while looking through the book accompanying an exhibition about the Female factories at Parramatta and at Hobart, I saw that she was an inmate in the Parramatta Factory.  No details as yet, but another fact to put with the other scraps of information I have gathered about her.

Anyone else researching Mary?
