He married, firstly, Elizabeth Mary Victoria Archdall, daughter of Captain Hugh Montgomery Archdall and Elizabeth Stewart, on 2 September 1885. He married, secondly, Helen Evelyn Trevor Griffith-Boscawen, on 28 August 1894. He died on 31 August 192 1 at age 67 at London, England. Brig.-Gen. Hugh James Archdale was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1902. He gained the rank of Brigadier-General i n the service of the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.
