Samuel Atkins Sallaway was born 28 Jul 1872 at Newington, NSW and passed away 3 Jan 1966 in Brisbane. Sam Sallaway married Elizabeth C. Brandon, also known as Isabella, who was born 25 Mar 1896 in Rous, NSW and passed away 19 May 1963. Sam and Isab ella had six children: Effie Anne: Herbert E.: Frederick Leslie: Reginald Alexander: Milton Wesley and John Arthur Sallaway: All the Sallaway children but Jack, were born in NSW. Jack was born in Nambour. The sallaway family home was located on th e corner of Tulip and Myrtle Streets and was purchased from a Mr Parnell in 1921. That dwelling is now listed as 4 Tulip Street, though originally was numbered 10 Myrtle Street. Sam Sallaway was a skilled carpenter and designer, who built and desig ned a number of homes in the Maleny district, including A.C.K. Cookeâs home in Maple Street and the second Maleny butter factory in Coral Street. Sam Sallaway also designed and built the familyâs boarding house, named âAllawahâ in 1909, whi ch was located in Maple Street. Allawah was situated on the present site of Maple Street Co-Op (2015). |
