He died on 19 April 1781 at Kensington, London, England, without surviving issue. He was buried at Hendon, London, England. His will (dated 30 April 1772) was probated on 18 May 1781. Sir Joseph Ayloffe, 6th Bt. was educated at Westminster Scho ol, Westminster, London, England. He succeeded to the title of 6th Baronet Ayloffe, of Braxted Magna, co. Essex [E., 1611] on 10 December 1730, then "of Framfield, co. Essex."1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1732.He was inve sted as a Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) in 1732. He held the office of Keeper of the State Paper Office in 1763. He wrote the bookEdmondson's Baronagium, published between 1764 and 1784, in six volumes. He wrote the book Calendars of th e Ancient Charters, etc. and of the Welsh and Scottish Rolls in the Tower of London, published 1772, editor. He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.

On his death, his baronecy became extinct.

He married, firstly, Alice Archdale, daughter of Martin Archdale and Barbara Sexton, circa 1611. He married, secondly,Margaret Fanshawe, daughter of Thomas Fanshawe and Joan Smith, on 9 May 1616 at Barking, Essex, England. He married, thirdly, Marg aret Porter, daughter of unknown Porter, before 1662. He died circa March 1662. He was buried on 25 March 1662 at Braxted, Essex, England. Sir Benjamin Ayloffe, 2nd Bt. succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Ayloffe, of Braxted Magna, co. Esse x [E., 1611] on 5 August 1627, then "of Great Braxted, co. Essex." He held the office of Sheriff of Essex. He adhered to King Charles I, and was subsequently imprisoned, with his estates sequestered. On 29 May 1649 he was fined £2,000, increased t o £3,000. He lived at Braxted, Essex, England. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Essex from 1661 to 1662.
