He died on 1 January 1857 at age 88. He had no children. Lt.-Col. William Archdall was commissioned in 1786, in the service of the 4th (The King's Own) Infantry. He fought in the French Revolutionary War, First Coalition, serving in Nova Scoti a and participating in the capture of St. Pierre and Miquelon in 1793. On his journey home his ship was taken by the French Privateer Vengeance in October 1797, and he was held prisoner for a year. He fought in the French Revolutionary War, Secon d Coalition, serving in Holland. He retired from the military in 1801, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, late of the 4th Infantry. He was an Inspecting Field Offier of Yeomanry. As of 26 July 1839, Lt.-Col. William Archdall was considered the he ad of the Archdale family, succeeding his brother Mervyn. He lived at Trillick, County Tyrone, Ireland. He lived at Castle Archdale, County Fermanagh, Ireland
