Michael Doona was born in Killorglin in 1848. His parents' names were Timothy Doona and Bridget O'Sullivan. After Michael's birth his parents decided to give the baby to an uncle in Cool Roe Glenbeigh. His name was Jack Griffin and his wife's nam e was Joanne Keane. They had no children of their own. As the famine was starting in Ireland at the time Timothy and his wife Bridget left Killorglin, went to Queenstown Harbour and boarded a ship to take them to America but alas no news was ever h eard of Timothy and Bridget Doona again.
Michael Doona grew up on the farm in Glenbeigh, transferred to him by his Uncle Jack Griffin. He married Ellen Griffin of Ball Killa, a neighbor's daughter. She was the only daughter in her family and she had six brothers: Timothy, James, Joseph, P atrick, and John.
Michael and Ellen had a large family: only thirteen.
Timothy Doona was the first member of the family. He was born I should think in 1876 or 1877. He emigrated to Scotland where he married and had four children: Michael, Daniel, James, and Ann.
Bridget Doona was born 29th Dec. 1877 at Cool Roe, Glenbeigh. Bridget emigrated to America and married James Joseph Sullivan
Mary Doona was born 1st August 1878. Mary never married.
Patrick Doona: date of birth and marital status uncertain.
John Doona was born on the 14th February 1882. He emigrated to Dunkan, England, married and had five children: Julia, Kitty, John, Michael, and Joseph.
Michael Doona was born 10th November 1883, Michael emigrated to England and then to Australia. He married and had five children: Daniel, Michael, Patrick, James, and Rosie.
Ellen Doona was born on the 1st November 1885. Ellen died at the age of three as a result of an accident.
Daniel Doona was born on the 17th December 1887. Daniel and his girlfriend Katie Leale emigrated to Australia where they married. They had three daughters: Kathleen, Eileen, and Mary. Katie Leale was from Glenbeigh.
Ellen Doona was born on the 7th May 1890. She emigrated to America, where she married Laurence Griffin of Dingle, Co. Kerry. Ellen and Laurence had no family.
Julia Doona was born on the 2nd Sept. 1891. Julia married Patrick O'Bonnet of Glencar. They had one daughter Catherine (Kitty).
James Doona was born on the 16th June 1893. He emigrated to Australia, and married Mary Burke from Caragh Lake, Co. Kerry. James and Mary had three children: Mary (who died an infant), Patrick, and Annie.
Joseph Doona was born 9th April 1896, emigrated to England and then to Australia, and married Margaret Jones. They had no family.
Maurice Doona was born 9th Nov. 1898 and married Anne O'Shea in 1932. Annie and Maurice had nine children: Eileen, Brendie, Mary, Annie, Margaret, Sheila, Michael Maurice, and Patrick.
