As of 1722, Colonel Mervyn Archdale was considered the head of the Archd ale family, succeeding his father, William Archdale. He lived at Castle Archdale, County Fermanagh, Ireland

As of 27 December 1726, Captain Edward Archdale was conside red the head of the Archdale family, succeeding his brother Mervyn Archdale. He lived at Castle Archdale, County Fermanagh, Ireland.

He married Hon. Mary Dawson, daughter of William Henry Dawson, 1st Viscount Carlow, on 15 July 1762. He died on 18 June 1813. Colonel Mervyn Archdall was educated at Trinity Church, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. He was admitted to Lincoln's I nn in 1745. He lived at Castle Archdale, County Fermanagh, Ireland. He held the office of the Governor of County Fermanagh in 1756. He gained the rank of Colonel in 1756 in the service of the Fermanagh Militia Dragoons. He gained the rank of Captai n in 1760 in the service of the Sir Ralph Gore's Regiment of Foot. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Fermanagh between 1761 and 1800. In 1773 he began building the present family seat. He held the office of High Sheriff i n 1773. He lived at Trillick, County Tyrone, Ireland, to which with the remaining Mervyn property in Tyrone, he succeeded in 1776. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Counties Fermanagh, Tyrone and Donegal, and Queen's County. H e was a signatory to the Dungannon Resolutions in 1782. He was a member of the Committee of Ulster Volunteers. He was in opposition to Catholic Emancipation. He refused a peerage, the Barony of Rossmore, rather than support the Irish Union.
